Industry Applications – Glass

Stop judging glass quality by eye.

Haze, distortion, clarity – the defects that trigger customer complaints, scrap and warranty claims are still, in most plants, argued over by eye. There is a better way. The Rhopoint ID turns “it looks hazy” into a number in two seconds – objective, repeatable, and traceable to the standards your customers already cite.

Optical quality is easy to see and hard to prove.

A customer has a problem with high haze. A coating drifts and nobody catches it until lamination. A curved cover-glass part is too small for the lab’s hazemeter to even load. In each case the cost isn’t the defect – it’s not being able to measure it, quickly and objectively, and act. We build an instrument that helps you do exactly that.

The Rhopoint Solution

We measure light the way people and cameras see through glass.

A traditional hazemeter gives you one number. Rhopoint’s imaging-based method captures the full optical picture – haze, clarity, sharpness, waviness and distortion – in a single two-second measurement, with an image you can keep for your records.

  • Fast and objective – all parameters in about two seconds, with a clear pass/fail against your own spec.
  • Standards-ready – haze results are directly comparable to ASTM D1003, the standard already in your contracts.
  • From lab to line – the same measurement principle on the bench and inline, so a lab spec is enforced unchanged on the floor.
  • Built by measurement specialists – developed with ETH Zürich; part of Rhopoint’s advanced appearance range used worldwide.

The measurement image itself – captured, quantified and saved with every reading.

One platform

From the quality lab to the production line.

Set the spec on the bench. Enforce it at line speed. Because both instruments share the same imaging physics, there is no conversion factor and no argument about whose number is right.

Proven on real glass.

Rhopoint appearance instruments are already measuring glass in production and R&D worldwide:

  • A major North American float producer uses Rhopoint measurement in its glass quality work.
  • Plain-glass manufacturers across the US and China run Rhopoint instruments for optical quality control.
  • A global specialty-glass manufacturer measures glass tubes with Rhopoint.
  • Applications extend to automotive switchable glazing, optical films and PET containers.

Trusted by glass manufacturers across North America, Europe and Asia.
