When you measure a curved surface with a normal gloss-meter, the light beam is scattered by the concave or convex surface giving a much lower and false reading for gloss.
In order to measure gloss on such a surface a special optical arrangement is needed that allows accurate measurement of the curved surface with a very small radius of curvature.
